The Book Mom

Building strong readers, confident writers, and critical thinkers, backed by a Ph.D. in English and 20 years in publishing.

Individualized English tutoring, shaped around each student.

Drawing on a Ph.D. in English, five years of university-level teaching, and my experience in book publishing, I provide one-on-one English tutoring that strengthens students’ reading, writing, and analytical skills heading into high school and college. I help students deepen their literary appreciation and understanding, write more effectively, and develop habits that support long-term academic success—both inside the classroom and beyond it.

A Thoughtful, Individualized Approach

Every student is different, and I tailor their instruction accordingly. An introductory session helps identify where a student needs the most support, whether that’s reading comprehension, grammar, organization, or analytical writing. Sessions may involve close reading and discussion, targeted grammar exercises, structured writing and revision, or focused test preparation—always shaped around the student’s goals and coursework.

Practicing these skills over time builds clarity, confidence, and a more intuitive grasp of English language and literature.

How I Support Students

I work with students across the core areas of English that most often determine confidence and success in school—reading comprehension, writing mechanics, analytical thinking, and test preparation. I read every book my students are assigned and give every student individualized instruction, with each session shaped around their specific needs and goals.
